What is a Socratic seminar? Socrates was a Greek philosopher well known for his belief in open-ended discussion and the importance of asking questions. A Socratic seminar focuses on inquiry rather than simply absorbing information or debating. The seminar starts when a leader asks open-ended questions to begin the discussion. Participants make comments regarding the questions while trying to avoid inserting their opinions or debating. This format relies mostly on listening and responding in order to gain understanding and to think critically. This Socratic seminar will focus on the sessions presented from flights 5 and 6. Attendees are encouraged to participate with questions and comments about the day's sessions. Moderators: Mark Manley, CAI, AARE, AMM, CES, MPPA ; Christie King, CAI, AMM, BAS Return to schedule
