Marketing the Weird and Wonderful

Speaker: Jack Christy, CAI, BAS, CES, MPPA

From ammunition to zebra head mounts, all sorts of oddities make their way to auction. But with selling unique and unusual items comes added risk to the auctioneer. In this session, you will see some of the challenges that come with the weird and wonderful things sold at auction. Is it stolen? Is it counterfeit? Is it regulated? Selling the weird and wonderful could be your best or worst auction, so be ready to determine whether to sign on or walk away!

Upon completing this session, you will be able to:
     1. Determine which item or items you want to handle
     2. Explain how to identify, research, and market weird and wonderful items properly
     3. Assess potential protections needed for the client and auctioneer
     4. Search out new ways of reaching buyers and sellers for these items
