Make your Congressional appointments

Attendees are responsible for making their own appointments to meet with their local representative and senators. You will want to make these appointments as soon as possible and should plan to spend approximately 15 minutes with them and/or their staff. These appointments should be scheduled between 10:30 am and 3 pm. If you do not have it already, you can get office contact information at congress.gov/members.

This event is essential to helping you connect with your legislative officials in order to share the issues facing your auction business as well as share the positive impact the auction method of marketing can have on government and regulatory agencies. Get additional tips for before (including a sample meeting request), during and after your meeting here.

  1. Try to reach the Member’s scheduler when possible. Many times you will be put into voicemail and be asked to send in your request electronically in writing by fax or email.
  2. Identify who you are, the reason for your visit and that you are from the state/district.
  3. Try to build a “cushion” between appointments to allow for time to travel between offices or if the Member’s schedule is running behind.

Once you have made your appointments, email your schedule to bmcgrath@auctioneers.org so that a master schedule of all meetings can be organized.

5-7 pm: Evening Reception

Thursday, September 5

8-10 am: Advocacy Training (Cambria Hotel) – NAA Advocacy leaders and staff will share an overview of issues impacting the industry as well as tips for meeting with Congressional members and staff. Collateral material will be provided to attendees for their Hill meetings.
10:30 am-3 pm: Congressional Appointments

**Unless otherwise notified by NAA staff, you may depart DC after your appointments. Immediately following your visits, please email a very brief recap of your meeting(s) – including questions the Members had – along with any photos to bmcgrath@auctioneers.org.
